Be Present in all ways

Try a simple self-care activity that can increase your ability to be present in all moments.
A great example is oral hygiene care. Provide toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss. Have some small bottles of water and small cups. Encourage the students to brush their teeth with mindfulness.

What does mindful teeth brushing look like? Good question. Lets be present and brush.

Ask the students to note the steps it takes to have clean teeth.
Once they have made these notes, ask them to follow the steps.

As they follow the steps encourage them to focus on the process, the taste, the feeling, the sounds, and the full experience.

How much toothpaste did you need to use?
What did it feel like to have the toothpaste and toothbrush move across your teeth?
What was the taste of the toothpaste?
What did it sound like?
Was there a smell?
Did you teeth feel different before and after the experience?
Was the water cold on your teeth as you rinsed?
Did you pay attention to time? Did you make sure you brushed for 2 minutes, which is recommended by dentists?
What did you look like as you brushed your teeth?
Do your teeth look different before and after?
What other things did you note on your own?

Where you present as you brushed or did you think of something else?

Give a challenge this week to have the students brush each morning and night with mindfulness.
Check in on Friday and ask them how this has been going for them.

Ready? Set? GO!
